Select the relationship, then enter two numbers separated by a space, comma or line break.

CALCULATION GUIDE

Choose the formula that matches the question.

Percentage of a total

“15% of 240” multiplies 240 by 0.15. The result is 36.

Part as a percentage

“36 is what percent of 240?” divides 36 by 240, then multiplies by 100.

Percentage change

Change uses the original value as the denominator. A fall from 200 to 150 is a 25% decrease.

Common questions

Why can percentage change exceed 100%?

An increase can exceed the entire starting value. Moving from 50 to 125 is a 150% increase.

What happens when the starting value is zero?

Standard percentage change is undefined because it would require division by zero.
